Ecological damage from drainage systems

There are two major types of drains that exist in Britain today. They are as follows:-

Surface Water Drains, all water that essentially falls from the sky and comes off roofs and from roads drains etc goes straight into local water ways and rivers.

Internal Sewerage Drains, all water and soil that is generated inside a building will go to the mains sewers and into a Water Treatment Plant.

This means that all chemicals and products used and flushed away internally are guaranteed to reach a treatment plant and be neuralised, then be of little or no impact to the environment and local eco systems. It does not give a green light to use any chemical ,but it means you can rely on the legislation implemented by DEFRA and the Environment Agency has made our lives better and waterways more able to sustain all life forms.

The potential environmental risk is when external cleaning and chemicals are used that will drain into a Surface Water Drains. This will go straight into the waterways and be a great risk to all flora and forna.
